I was hauling mulch with my BX this past weekend when I noticed an unusual rattle coming from under the hood. Opened the hood to find the band clamp that secures the air cleaner canister had sheered off. It should be a simple warrenty repair, but it is still irritating. Anyone else had a similar problem? The worst part is that the broken band scuffed off the paint on the underside of the hood.

Sorry to here about the paint. The air cleaner bracket is not a new problem and should be replaced with the newer design unit off the 30 series. ....

I spoke with my dealer about it and was told there is a TSB on the problem. A modification to the bracket to which the band clamp attaches is required, which means the tractor has to go back to the dealership. What a pain. I don't mean to second guess the dealer, but does this sound right?

....

From what I've heard, it's just a new beefier bracket. You could replace it yourself. Some owners have even had the new bracket mailed to them. ....

That's what I thought. I'll ask the dealer this afternoon if something along those lines can be arranged. ....

Sort of jumping in here, but the hour meter on my new BX23(3 weeks)doesn't work. Connections seem o.k. The dealer is ordering one under warranty. Anyone else had hour meter problems? ....

The air cleaner clamp on my BX broke at about 50 hours. Too much engine vibration at idle, I suspect.

I pulled the bracket off and filed the angle flat. Then I got a big screw type hose clamp... like the one that attach's your exhaust hose to your clothes dryer.... and put it on in place of the factory strap.

It seemed to fix the problem permanently. ....

I spoke with the service manager at my dealer yesterday. Apparently there is a new design for the bracket to which the band clamp attaches. Both the band clamp and the bracket must be replaced. It doesn't really matter to me as long as whatever the fix is works and doesn't break again or cost me anything. ....

DRankin,

Does your BX22 with the 3-cylinder engine shake as much at idle as my BX1500 with the 2-cylinder? Does it have the cast counterweight on top of the head? I can't stand to watch mine shake like that. It looks like it is going to come off the frame and walk out of the garage. I usually bring it up to just over idle while its warming up and I never bring it ALL the way down. Just too much vibration. ....

I did the same as you are doing..... kept the idle pretty high. The hood rattled so much I lined the contact edges with strips of automotive foam rubber weather stripping.

I don't know what sort of counter weights it had, I sold it about 9 months ago when I moved up to the 4115 TLB. ....
